About the BBIA

Founded in 2007, the Belize Book Industry Association (BBIA) is a national organisation that brings together all professions and industries connected to the world of books. Our members include authors, publishers, booksellers, distributors, librarians, and others whose work and passion revolve around reading and writing. We believe that books are not only vital to education and literacy but also a powerful expression of Belizean culture and identity.

Our Objectives

The BBIA works to strengthen and support the book sector through advocacy, professional development, and the promotion of local literature. Our key objectives are to:

  • Lobby for the adoption of a Book Law that provides incentives and protections for all stakeholders in the book industry.

  • Promote Belizean culture and literature, building both national and international markets for locally published books.

  • Recognise that reading and literacy are essential to the development of human resources and national progress.

  • Increase public awareness of the unique and multifaceted nature of the book industry.

  • Strengthen the Belize National Library Service and Information System (BNLSIS) to better serve the Belizean public.

  • Safeguard intellectual property rights and enforce copyright protections.

  • Encourage and facilitate the continuous training of professionals working within the book sector.
