About the BBSN
Founded in 2007 as the Belize Book Industry Association (BBIA), the organisation was officially rebranded in 2025 as the Belize Book Sector Network (BBSN). The new name reflects our commitment to building a stronger and more connected literary community across Belize. The BBSN brings together all professions and industries related to the world of books, including authors, publishers, booksellers, distributors, librarians, and anyone whose work or passion centres on reading and writing. We believe that books are essential to education and literacy and that they play a vital role in expressing Belizean culture and identity.
Our Objectives
The BBSN works to strengthen and support the book sector through advocacy, professional development, and the promotion of local literature. Our key objectives are to:
Lobby for the adoption of a Book Law that provides incentives and protections for all stakeholders in the book industry.
Promote Belizean culture and literature, building both national and international markets for locally published books.
Recognise that reading and literacy are essential to the development of human resources and national progress.
Increase public awareness of the unique and multifaceted nature of the book industry.
Strengthen the Belize National Library Service and Information System (BNLSIS) to better serve the Belizean public.
Safeguard intellectual property rights and enforce copyright protections.
Encourage and facilitate the continuous training of professionals working within the book sector.
