Book Week 2025

Book Week 2025 brought Belizeans together once again in a vibrant, countrywide celebration of reading, storytelling, and our ever-growing literary culture. Hosted by the Belize Book Sector Network (formerly BBIA) in partnership with the Belize National Library Service and Information System, this year’s event embraced the theme “From the mountains to the sea, stories set us free!”—a reminder of how stories link our diverse communities and help us imagine brighter futures.

The festivities began on 23 April, when public libraries across Belize opened their doors for a full day of activities. Children, families, and lifelong readers enjoyed storytelling sessions, craft stations, readings, workshops, and creative displays that highlighted both local authors and global literature. Librarians nationwide reported an enthusiastic turnout, with many branches welcoming new young readers experiencing Book Week for the first time.

The celebration culminated on 29 April with the official opening ceremony at the Ignacia Cacho Public Library in Dangriga. The event featured author presentations, book exhibitions from publishers and booksellers, cultural performances, and interactive engagements for all ages. Writers, educators, students, and community members gathered to share their work, exchange ideas, and celebrate the role of books in Belizean life.

Book Week 2025 reaffirmed the power of reading to inspire creativity, strengthen communities, and preserve our stories. The Belize Book Sector Network extends heartfelt thanks to all libraries, partners, authors, performers, and attendees who made this year’s celebration such a meaningful success. We look forward to continuing this literary journey together in the years ahead.
